The conditions were tough, but Captain Alan never stopped working to put us on the fish. By the end of the trip, we caught 7 fluke and a sea robin—an all-around great day on the water.

Captain Al was ready to go the moment I arrived, and the day couldn’t have started better—sunny skies with a light breeze. About halfway out of Barnegat Inlet, I landed my first Bluefish. Over the next couple of hours, I reeled in more sea robins and just-short fluke than I could count—my arms were burning. I even picked up a small sea bass along the way. The highlight came with my first keeper fluke at 22”, but while we were busy celebrating, a waterspout formed between us and shore. Captain Al handled it like a pro, steering us north and getting us safely behind it. We rode out the wind and rain, then finished the trip back in the bay catching a few more fluke. Another memorable day on the water with Captain Al.

We took our daughter out for her birthday, and even though bass was out of season, we still managed to catch three keepers. Alan knows the ocean and the best fishing spots, and he worked hard to make sure we had a great day on the water. He also shared helpful fishing tips that made the trip even better.

My wife, 13-year-old son, and I had a great trip. We started early and caught striped bass, fluke, and blues. Alan was great to talk with and shared a lot about the bay, the ocean, Barnegat, and LBI’s history. We all learned more about fishing—especially my son. The heavy fog kept us in the bay, but it was still an excellent day on the water.

We had an incredible day on the water with Captain Alan! He guided us to plenty of fluke, including three solid keepers—and we even had a big one that slipped off the hook. More than just the fishing, he created a fun, relaxed atmosphere and made both me and my sons feel right at home on his boat.

Captain Al delivered one of the most enjoyable fishing trips I've ever had on—or off—Long Beach Island. I showed up early, and he was prepped and ready to head out. From the start, his calm and flexible approach made the day easygoing, even with a bit of wind. Despite the breeze, we were fishing in no time, and I quickly reached my limit on bluefish. We kept going with catch-and-release and ended up landing nearly three times the limit. There were plenty of fluke in the mix too, although I chose not to keep any. Captain Al made the experience even better with great conversation about fishing, conservation, classic cars, and even scotch and cigars. It was clear he’s not only a skilled guide but also incredibly well-rounded. I was genuinely impressed on my first trip and am already looking forward to many more. — Dan Crandell
